Some celebrity friendships make absolute sense: Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell; Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale; Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney. It’s easy to imagine them hangin’ out and moaning about their other halves over a cheeky bottle of Pinot Grigio (or prune juice, if you’re Gwynnie).

But then there are the celebrity BFFs that make you go WTF?! A bit like this:

So here are 8 of the most unlikely celebrity mates…

1. Lady Gaga and June Brown

Recently, we saw Lady Gaga getting chummy with Dot Cotton off Eastenders. That was weird. Sweet, yes, but mainly just a bit strange. One’s a ciggie wielding national treasure, and the other is a worldwide megastar who enjoys wearing meat frocks. SURE.

2. Kate Moss and Joan Collins

How utterly faaabulous! Talking to the Mail Online, Joan said: “Kate sent me two dozen roses and peonies. I invited her to stay in St Tropez next summer.” She might regret that when she sees Mossy lying poolside looking like this…

3. Holly Willoughby and Francis from MIC

The famous pair were spotted out in London this summer, puffing on cigarettes and supping champagne. Their friendship started when he jumped out of a box and surprised her on This Morning because he’s her fave Made In Chelsea character. Watch the vid and see Holly gush like a fan-gurrrl…

4. Blake Lively and Florence Welch

The Gossip Girl actress Instagrammed this picture along with the caption: ‘I miss my dear friend Florence’. Who knew they were so close? But then we remembered Flo and her Machine made a cameo on Gossip Girl back in 2011, and it’s been reported that she sang three songs at Blake’s wedding to Ryan Reynolds last year.

Watch Blake harp on about her BFF in this Chime for Change interview with Heat magazine. If she starts to bore you, just watch the dude behind her and his uber #awkward glances to the camera.

5. David Beckham and Snoop Dogg

Is this the coolest friendship ever, or just the weirdest? Either way, WE LOVE IT. Apparently the pair struck up their friendship when the Beckhams moved to LA.

6. 50 Cent and Bette Midler

Back in 2009, 50 Cent attended Bette Midler’s spring picnic for the New York Restoration Project.

During the visit, ‘Fiddy’ said: “Look how beautiful things are and how nice it feels when I’m around her. Me and Bette collaborating would be really hot. But I’d need to make something new for her. For the right song, we’d definitely get together.”

And Bette Midler said of him: “He is one of the newest members of our tribe. He has really made my life worth living. 50 has been with me through thick and thin.”

Anyone else shudder a little bit when he said the word hot?

7. Lena Dunham and Claire Danes

We discovered this unlikely friendship at this year’s Emmy Awards when Clare Danes crashed Lena Dunham’s TV interview. “I am just so excited because you are my really good friend and I never get to see you,” Lena squealed as they stole the show. It was one of the highlights from the night, really.

8. Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence

When Rihanna posted this snap of herself with Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, the world went into complete meltdown. Were they friends? How do they know each other? Etc. On further investigation they only bumped into each other in Paris while out having dinner, and we’re probably all making a much bigger deal of it than it actually is. Oh.
