SAN ANTONIO, TX—(Marketwired – April 29, 2016) – Dr. Steve Edwards, a San Antonio area dentist, is hosting a program in May that will provide free dental care to underinsured or uninsured local residents. Dentistry From The Heart is a national program in which dentists open up their practices for one day of free dentistry. Dentistry From The Heart allows dentists to provide free cleanings, exams, fillings and dental extractions. Dr. Edwards' practice will host its event on May 14. “Dentistry From The Heart is a program I've been looking into for years because it helps us treat people who do not have access to regular dental care,” said Dr. Edwards, who operates Advanced Dental Associates. “We are constantly looking at ways to provide dental care instead of having residents skip dental appointments and risk their oral and overall health.”
Dr. Edwards' program begins at 7:30 a.m., and the first 200 patients are guaranteed to be treated by a staff member at Advanced Dental Associates. Each patient must be 18 or older and will have the choice of a free filling, extraction or cleaning.
Dentistry From The Heart began in Florida and is now an international success, with more than 300 events every year. Dr. Edwards said participants are encouraged to arrive early, bring snacks and dress for the weather in case they need to wait outside the office. While this is the first year Advanced Dental Associates will host the event, Dr. Edwards plans to make Dentistry From The Heart an annual event.
