Welcome to GeekyNews’ weekly music round-up! From now on, Sundays are all about what’s been happening in the music world. From festivals to awards, videos to albums, and big releases to all around going-ons, we’ll have it all. Plus, the end of each round-up will feature my top 5 must-listen songs of the week.

Taylor Swift Shows Off Her Wild Side in “Blank Space” Video

And just when we thought we had seen every side of Taylor Swift, her new video for the second 1989 single, “Blank Space”, proved us wrong. She takes us through a roll coaster ride in less than five minutes, giving us a look at an envious high-luxury life and a not so envious love story. The adorable walk in the park becomes more of a nightmare when Swift discovers her handsome man texting another girl. Will the relationship go down in flames? Well, you’ll just have to watch and see.

Swift also released an app along with the video, called the “Taylor Swift: Blank Space Experience”. Fans can download the app and experience a virtual journey through video’s locations, unlocking secrets and exclusive content as they explore the interactive rooms.

YouTube Announces ‘YouTube Music Key’ Streaming Services

YouTube is taking a leap of faith into the music streaming business. This week the site announced its paid music streaming service called YouTube Music Key. The service, which begins Beta testing on Monday with users, offers a new way for people to listen to music on YouTube. For $9.99 a month, you can listen to music ad-free, offline, and without having to stay in the app, allowing you to multitask on your phone. YouTube says that the price also includes a subscription to Google Play Music, which has, “30+ million songs, expert-curated playlists, and in the coming days, the ability to watch many YouTube official music videos right from the app.” The company definitely has a really cool idea brewing, but will it be enough to lure users away from Spotify and other free streaming services?

And the Awards Just Keep on Coming at the MTV EMAs

MTV European Music Awards brought a ton of excitement and stars to Glasgow this past Monday. Nicki Minaj hosted the fan voted awards, living up to her ever theatrical reputation throughout the night along side other big performers. My favorite moments?  Ed Sheeran’s dazzling performance of  “Thinking Out Loud” and Alicia Keys’ beautiful closing ballad, “We Are Here”, sit at the top of my list.

Here is a few highlights of the night’s big winners. You can view the full list, here.

Best Song – “Problem” ft. Iggy Azelea by Ariana Grande

Hayley Williams, Idina Menzel, and Ariana Grande to Receive Honors at Billboard Women in Music Awards

Look’s like Taylor Swift won’t be the only shining star at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on December 12. Billboard announced this week that Ariana Grande will receive the Billboard Rising Star award and Broadway singer Idina Menzel will accept the first Breakthrough Artist of the Year award. Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore, will also receive a new honor, the Billboard Trailblazer Award. There are still two categories to be awarded, the Billboard Icon Award and Country Artist of the Year, their recipients to be announced within the next few weeks.

Bono, One Direction, Chris Martin, and More Team up for Band Aid 30 Charity Single

What better way to usher in the Christmas season than a new, spectacular, and charitable  holiday single? That’s exactly what Bob Geldof and Midge Ure hope to create by bringing back their charity driven supergroup, Band Aid. Started during the Christmas season of 1984, the musicians brought together some of the best in the business to record a single to raise money for efforts in Ethiopia.  They’re doing it again, bringing back the same classic song, but with some new stars and a new cause. Bono, One Direction, Chris Martin, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Ellie Goulding, and more gathered in London on Saturday to record their rendition of “Do they Know It’s Christmas?” to raise money for Ebola relief under the new band name, Band Aid 30. The single will be released tomorrow.
