The Waterski Federation of South Africa has launched their Learn2Ride development programme for previously disadvantaged individuals. The initiative that is funded by The Department of Sport and donors is kicking off at StokeCity WakePark in Midrand.
What used to be a niche sport a couple of years back, has grown into a well-know ‘extreme’ sport. However wakeboarding has always been perceived to only be accessible by some privileged few who have access to boats.
Learn2Ride aims to break this perception and open up the sport to the masses. We have the opportunity to identify and develop previously disadvantaged youths to this growing sport called, Cable Wakeboarding. The youth is the future, and that is where we need to focus our efforts, developing our countries next heroes today.
The Learn2Ride development programme is encouraging members of the public who know of previously disadvantaged individuals who would like the chance of learning to kneeboard, ski or wakeboard to get in touch with them via e-mail info@ridecable.co.za so they can arrange a free session with the individual.
Suitable candidates for the development programme should be able to swim unaided, they need to have a level of comfort in water, and must be previously disadvantaged to qualify.
If you are a suitable candidate or know of someone, please e-mail info@ridecable.co.za or register via the web-site www.ridecable.co.za and we will get in touch with you to finalise the details.
The candidates will have free entry into the park.
They will have free usage of the equipment – Life jacket, skis, kneeboards, wakeboards, wakeskates and helmets.
They will need to bring their own swimming costumes, towels, caps and sunscreen.
Toasted Sandwich and juice/water will be provided.
They will need to have an indemnity form signed by either a parent or a guardian if they are under 18.
We will use this recruitment drive to identify individuals who show talent and then select them as part of a team that will be groomed to progress in the sport.
