ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College’s Dean of Students, Dr. Samuel Jones will launch his second book during a special discussion with JCJC Honors College students. His book, “Live Life on Purpose: From Discovery to Practice” builds on the leadership practices Dr. Jones laid out in his first book, “The Man I Never Knew: How Leadership Can be Developed by Faith, Family and Friends,” which was published in 2011.

The public is open to the “Book Talk and Signing” on Wednesday, October 1, at 12:30 p.m. in the Home and Health Auditorium at JCJC’s Ellisville campus. Following Dr. Jones’ presentation he will lead a question and answer session and sign books.

“The intent in my first book was to teach leadership principles from my personal experiences. ‘Live Life on Purpose’ was written to help readers discover, define and live their life on purpose.  It will help you discover the facts and faith you need; it will help you define the meaning of your facts and faith as to how it can motivate you to act; and then it will provide you with some strategies to apply the actions needed to transform your private secrets into public purpose,” said Dr. Jones.

Gaining more experience as the facilitator and trainer for the Mississippi Economic Council’s Leadership Mississippi program, Dr. Jones has had the opportunity to work with the state’s top executives. The former USM basketball standout also played basketball in Finland. The Gunnison, Mississippi native was the assistant basketball coach at JCJC before becoming the JCJC student recruiter and assistant dean of student affairs, as he discovered his life’s purpose. Dr. Jones adds his second book was written for three target audiences; high school/college students, working/unemployed population and the baby boomers/retired population.

“This is first official book signing event,” said Dr. Jones. “I wanted to launch this book at JCJC because our campus community fits the targeted audience for the book. This book is a ‘must read’ for high school and college students because 50 percent of college freshmen are undecided on a major. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, once students do choose their major, 20 to 50 percent will change it three to five times before they graduate.  Eighty percent of college students in the U.S. change their major at least once over their college career.  I believe this book is a great tool to help students find their true direction and purpose in life.”

Currently, the owner of Life Changing Presentations conducts training on leadership development, strategic planning and customer service. He has conducted training and seminars for organizations such as the USM Alumni Association, Mississippi Power and the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program. Dr. Jones is a member of the National Speakers Association and he was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2013.

The book can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million, as well as at the presentation on October 1.
