Question by shadow: can you use a infrared port to set up a wireless network in your house?

i was wondering if instead of buying a wireless router, if you can use a infrared port that connects to my pc by usb. my computer is a hp m470n xp media center edtion. if you need more info, my email is frogy2194@gmail.com or

as far as infrared port is concerned, YES it is can be used to transfer data b/w peers. like b/w computers / mobiles etc

BUT only problem is that infrared needs LOS Line of Sight between the connecting devices and its ranges is max of 2meters.

if you are slightly out of sight you cannt connect.

Otherhand

wireless router uses different frequency bands and provides connectivity without LOS and even higher data rates.

So i suggest you to go for Wireless router
