Triple Monitor Array – Laptop Source

Typical work environment. Monitors are (3) matching 20" Dell 2001FP. They’re older, but I’m not wild about "wide screen" monitors. This view is a 4800×1200 pixel desktop from my work laptop, using VGA inputs into the monitor. I switch source by using the source buttons on the front of the monitors. The DVI sources are for the Dell XPS desktop, and one of the S-Video is for the hidden Dell C840 laptop that’s mounted inside the floor box (for emergencies only).
Mission control console created by hollowing out a Pottery Barn wall shelf, flipping it upside-down, and setting it on top of the wire-hiding floor box. I routed out a slot in the front, and there are 2 4-port USB hubs, along with a smoke-tinted plexiglass cover that hides the Motorola DOCSYS 3 modem, Linksys 802.11n wireless router, Microsoft wireless keyboard base, and Raritan 4-port USB KVM switch (though I use it primarily for the K+M).
Creative Labs GigaWorks T40 Series II speakers are mounted to the sides of the monitor array.
LED rope lighting provides the ambiance.
Chair is Herman Miller Aeron.
Mouse is Logitech MX-something wireless laser.
Keyboard is Microsoft Wireless 3000 keyboard.
Desk lamp and desk pad by IKEA.
Cordless phone by Motorola, with Panasonic headset.
The CPU holder at the right is a HumanScale CPU600 CPU hanger, and is pretty solid, with a sliding track to move the PC forward and aft if needed.

Question by Philip: Which all in one printer is the best for a PC and MAC home network setup?
I am not bothered about the cost so which all in one printer would be the best in this environment
PC connected to bt home hub (Router) and printer connected by USB or ethernet cable, MAC to detect the printer and connect wirelessly.

The HP Photosmart Premium C309g is an outstanding Best Buy. Quality output is the key with this model – photo and text print quality is excellent and scans and copies look great.
There are plenty of connectivity options including USB (USB cable is supplied), ethernet and wi-fi. It has built-in Bluetooth plus memory card slots and PictBridge so you can print direct from a PictBridge-enabled camera. Compatible memory cards include memory stick and SD – check that your card is compatible before you buy.

HP – Photosmart Premium Fax C309a
The HP Photosmart Premium with Fax is a top-of-the-range inkjet all-in-one printer that’s quite expensive – but it comes with all the features you’d get in an office printer.
Text printing was good during testing and speeds were also impressive. We managed to print around 6.4 pages a minute of high quality black text.

Canon – Pixma MP640
The Best Buy Canon Pixma MP640 has wi-fi connectivity and produces high quality photo prints. But, what really sets this model apart from many others, is the speed with which it produces these stunning photos.
This is one of Canon’s higher end multifunctional, non-faxing inkjet printers. It has a slightly larger tilting LCD screen to make it easier to preview your prints and more connectivity options than some of the cheaper models.

HP – Photosmart D5460
The HP Photosmart D5460 is a standard inkjet printer that produces good-quality documents across the board, at generally impressive speeds. It has lots of extra features and is good enough to be considered a Which? Best Buy.
Plain black text documents were of a high standard, and speeds were pretty impressive at about six pages a minute. The printer did slow down slightly when a small amount of colour was added to test documents.

HP – Photosmart C6380
The HP Photosmart C6380 comes with some nice features, such as wireless connectivity, and produces decent prints. Overall we consider it good enough to be a Which? Best Buy.
Quality of the C6380′s colour and black-and-white prints was above average while speed of printing in colour was average. It took a little under three minutes for us to print an 8×10-inch colour photo. The printer comes with five ink tanks, including a normal black and a photo black.

This Best Buy HP Officejet Pro 8500 is fast to print. Quality is good overall and text documents look fantastic. Colour copies are super sharp and it also has a built-in fax.
This HP offers USB and ethernet connectivity, but it doesn’t have wi-fi. There’s no USB cable supplied but there is a telephone cable.

HP – Photosmart Wireless (B109n/Q8444B)
This HP has good colour printing and copying which make it a good choice if you print lots of graphics documents. Text and photo prints are reasonable too. This model is the same as the Photosmart B109a, but with the addition of wireless connectivity.
This printer has wi-fi and USB connectivity – a USB cable is supplied in the box. There’s no PictBridge, but the memory card slots on the printer allow photos to be printed directly from memory card – check before you buy that your memory card is supported.
