PRESCOTT VALLEY, ARIZ. (PRWEB) October 08, 2013

Northcentral University (NCU), a global online, graduate-focused university, announced today that the School of Educations first certification preparation program, a Master of Education with a Specialization in PK-12 Principal Leadership (M.Ed./PLCS), has been approved by the Arizona Department of Education for an initial period of three years. It was also approved by the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education (AZPPSE).

This M.Ed. program specialization will assist NCU students in meeting the coursework, field experience and internship requirements needed to apply for certification as PK-12 public school principals in the State of Arizona, said Cindy Guillaume, Ph.D., dean, NCU School of Education.

The M.Ed./PLCS is fully aligned with the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) Standards, a requirement for Arizona Department of Education approval. A majority of other states have also adopted the ISLLC Standards as their state school leadership standards, making ISLLC alignment a requirement for program approval in those states as well.

What this means for our graduates is that they will be able to offer potential employers evidence of successful experience in specific skill areas essential to school leadership including curriculum, supervision, budgeting, and information-driven decision making, shared Mary Goggins Selke, Ph.D., lead developer and coordinator: principal leadership certification specialization within the School of Education.

National membership organizations, such as the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA), National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE), National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), have all endorsed the ISLLC Standards. Nine NCU PK-12 M.Ed. specializations are also nationally accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).
