Intel IoT Gateways are currently available from seven ODMs with 13 more releasing systems in early 2015.

April 2, 2014: Intel® Gateway Solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) is a family of platforms that enables companies to seamlessly interconnect industrial infrastructure devices and secure data flow between devices and the cloud. It offers key hardware and software building blocks—pre-integrated and validated—resulting in an application-ready platform for unlocking the value of data. We caught up with Adam Burns, director of the IoT Solutions Group at Intel, on Skype*, to get his insights on how the solution came to be, how it works, who can benefit, and the impact on the marketplace. More information on the Skype Video Series:Gateway Solutions site existing since May 17, 2014. More information on the justification of the approach: Making the Internet of Things Real—Part I: Intelligent Gateways as of Febryary 9, 2014.

Oct 1, 2014: Intel IoT Zone Pipeline Monitoring. Kevin Williams, a platform architect in Intel’s intelligent platform solutions group, developed a demonstration complete with drones, infrared sensors and gateway communications to illustrate pipeline monitoring. Williams admits that infrared communications to drones is not feasible for real-world environments, but the purpose of the proof of concept for IDF was to showcase how the coupling of technology from sensors to gateways can be innovative within the critical and established pipeline monitoring industry. Assesment of its real world impact is given in the Technologies Mimic the 5 Senses to Monitor Pipelines Intel Free Press article of October 29, 2014.

To get value out of the data generated in deployments using the Intel® IoT Platform, developers need a powerful yet easy-to-use approach to big data analytics. Intel is expanding its cloud analytics support for IoT Developer Kits to include the Intel® IoT Gateway series, in addition to Intel® Galileo boards and Intel® Edison Modules. Cloud analytics enables IoT application developers to detect trends and anomalies in time series at big data scale.

McAfee, a part of Intel Security, announced Enhanced Security for Intel IoT Gateways in support of the Intel IoT Platform. This pre-validated solution adds advanced security management for gateway devices.

Intel Security also announced that its Enhanced Privacy Identity (EPID) technology will be promoted to other silicon vendors. EPID has anonymity properties, in addition to hardware-enforced integrity, and is included in ISO and TCG standards. The EPID technology provides an on-ramp for other devices to securely connect to the Intel IoT Platform.

At IoT Insights in San Francisco, Intel Security announced Enhanced Security for IoT Gateways in support of the Atlantic Ridge reference model introduced today. This pre-validated solution from McAfee, part of Intel Security, adds advanced security management for gateway devices.Intel also announced that it has taken a major step to enable secure interoperability between third-party IoT products by licensing its Enhanced Privacy Identity (EPID) technology. Previously available only on Intel processors, EPID enables Atlantic Ridge deployments to incorporate sophisticated anonymity technology and hardware-enforced integrity in a manner that is compatible with existing ISO and TCG standards. We believe we have the technology, expertise and reach to bring simple, secure access to consumers worldwide. Intel Security offers a full range of solutions from cloud and data enter to edge and even services creation allowing System Integrators (SI) to offer end-to-end security to their IoT installations. Wind River Linux Core Platform

Wind River Linux is the industry standard for embedded Linux software. The latest version includes expanded hardware support for the latest ARM, Intel, MIPS, and Power architectures, and is updated with the current Linux kernel, toolchain, and user space.

With the Yocto Project 1.5 open source development infrastructure as its core foundation, Wind River Linux uses the latest Linux kernel as its upstream source to ensure customers have commercially supported access to the newest advancements from the open source community.

Maintaining a roll-your-own embedded Linux project is expensive, time-consuming, and risky. Wind River helps you lower your total cost of ownership (TCO) by taking the cost, time, and risk out of embedded Linux development with a proven commercial solution. Our investment in each Wind River Linux release and our ongoing patch and security vulnerability management equate to over 160 person-years of effort. Our customers benefit from this investment by trusting Wind River to provide their embedded Linux solution.

Wind River provides board support packages (BSPs) for widely adopted processors, including Intel Atom™, Intel second- and third-generation Xeon®/Core™ processors (Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge), Texas Instruments OMAP 3, Freescale QorIQ P4080, LSI Axxia ACP34xx, and Xilinx Zynq.

If the hardware you require for your next project is not supported on our list of Wind River Linux BSPs, the Wind River Professional Services team can help create a custom BSP. Please contact Wind River Sales or your local area account manager for more information.
