Toyota is upping the stakes to earn a name in EV racing. Particularly, the Japanese automaker is setting aside their hybrid 3400cc V8 and supercapacitor energy storage system to race a vehicle named TMG EV P002 at Pikes Peak on July 8th.

For those less familiar with the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the race is the ultimate endurance challenge. Every year, it takes place in Colorado, and each year automakers from all over the globe come to find out which models have more oomph than their competition.

Fans of the Japanese automaker will be delighted to hear that the new P002 uses the original powertrain from the TMG EV P001, which received a very reputable time at Nurburgring Nordshleife, last year. The biggest difference is that this year its fitted to a Radical Sportscars' chassis.

How powerful is the new Toyota-powered race car ?

Being backed by a top power of 350 kW and max speed of 150 mph, we promise it won't be a disappointment.

That said; the Japanese automaker continues to be very modest about their EV racing developments. Particularly stating, "Electric powertrain technology in motorsport is still in its development phase but through projects like this one, TMG is laying the foundations for the future of high-performance and motorsport cars."1
