Thinking of what to get that special Mom in your life? I was too. I knew what I was going to get my own Mom, but my boyfriend's mom has played an important role in my life this past year and I wanted to show her how much I appreciated her in my life. She's big on accessories, so I thought, why not make her a pair of gorgeous earrings? Hence, this DIY! If Mom loves jewelry, this is the perfect gift for her. Don't forget to check out the other goodies I got from American Greetings at the end of the tutorial (they have an awesome One-Stop Shop display)!

Materials Needed:

Scissors

Lace Fabric/Trim

Jewelry Pliers

Earrings Hooks

Dritz Fray Check Solution (Optional)

Step by Step Tutorial:

Step 1. Unravel your fabric or trim and cut off the necessary amount. In this case, I cut off a section of two, since it'll be one piece for each ear. You don't need to be completely precise right now. You just want to cut off what you need. You will be cutting and trimming it down later on.

Step 2. Trim the sides. How do you want your earrings to look? Cut accordingly and play around a bit. I started off by trimming a little bit off and then looking at it. If I didn't like it, I kept trimming a little more off. There's no exact science to this. It's really how you want the earrings to look. You could be using the same fabric as me and come up with a completely different design depending on your tastes! Make sure to keep the sides symmetrical.

Step 3 & 4. Cut the fabric down the middle to separate the two pieces. Cut the inner sides so they match the design on the outer sides.

Step 5 & 6. Taking your jewelry pliers, push the small loop on the earring hook out. Insert the earring hook into your fabric. Using the jewelry pliers again, close the small loop. Make sure the loop is completely closed. Because this fabric is very thin, it can easily slip through the earring loop. You wouldn't want your earring to come undone!

Step 7. This step is optional, but I highly recommend it. The Dritz Fray Check solution keeps the fabric from fraying. It hardens the fabric so it makes fraying impossible. This is extremely helpful, not only in this tutorial, but for everyday use! Drip some of the solution on the edges of the earring and near the earring hook as well. The fabric near the earring hook is sensitive because it is in constant contact with the metal. It will eventually wear down unless you treat it.

I'm not stopping there though. I went to Walmart to pick up a card and some wrapping paper and I bumped into the Best Mother's Day Ever display from American Greetings. It's a One-Stop Shop for everything Mother's Day. I picked up a few extra goodies below all for just $10! Jackie loves writing and sipping on coffee, so I'm sure she'll love these additions in her gift bag. Now I just have to pack it all together and voila, I have the best Mother's Day gift ever for Jackie!

I love the American Greetings display at Walmart and the concept of a "One-Stop Shop" is genius! The display at my local Walmart had three different sections: Candy Shop, Coffee Shop and Pet Shop. Each section had gifts for mom specific to that category. Plus, this is extremely convenient for those who are always on-the-go and need to pick things up quickly or for those last minute folks who didn't plan anything until the day of (echm, my boyfriend for example). Either way, it definitely results in the #BestMomsDayEver! Check out the display at your local store for inspiration or last minute gifts! My Walmart's display looks like this:
