“Remembering our past, carrying it around with us always, may be the necessary requirement for maintaining, as they say, the wholeness of the self. To ensure that the self doesn’t shrink, to see that it holds on to its volume, memories have to be watered like potted flowers, and the watering calls for regular contact with the witnesses of the past, that is to say, with friends. They are our mirror; our memory; we ask nothing of them but that they polish the mirror from time to time so we can look at ourselves in it.” ― Milan Kundera, Identity

While I like this quote and it is food for thought, my issue might be that we do not always see ourselves as other people do.  When we look in the mirror or our memory, our vision is clouded by our inner thoughts of happenings and how we see ourselves or that particular memory.  Do you think that matters?  How do you think this affects the 'wholeness of the self'?  I do believe when I revisit memories I always sway them to be in a positive happy light, whether they are or are not... but there are exceptions of negative memories and they leave me with hurt and the feeling of being less.

With many books out there on ego and our self image and today all the importance shoved in front of our blooming generations... it seems to be "ALL ABOUT ME".

I really would love some comments back on this.

"My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins." James 5:19-20
