After exploring South Iceland, we headed west towards the Snaefellsness Peninsula.

Where: Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland

When: July 2016

The only items on our agenda were to explore the Snæfellsnes peninsula and the national park. We had no stops or destinations mapped out, and were easily distracted by the grassy views and plentiful wildlife.

We stopped at Kirkjufellsfoss, before backtracking to Grundarfjörður for lunch. Matty found a restaurant called Bjargar-stein, and it was my favorite meal of the whole trip! Warm bread with fresh butter, heaping bowls of Icelandic fish stew, and icy cold rosé. Not to mention the sweetest décor straight out of an Anthro shoot.

After warming up our bodies and bellies, we made our way through the national park. We climbed the Saxholl crater, and then continued around the peninsula, finding ourselves in the sweetest town of Hellnar. The Fjöruhúsið café is perched above the sea, and is the most perfect spot to sit and stay a while. There is also a stunning coastal walk from Hellnar to Anarstarpi, winding all along the cliffs.

We then headed back to the ION hotel, stopping in Reykjavík for dinner.

Next stop, Þingvellir National Park and a bit more South Iceland!
