On our trip to Iceland this past summer, we flew the easy-as-pie red eye from Boston to Reykjavík, and headed straight to the Blue Lagoon!

Where: Reykjavík, Iceland

When: July 2016

Stayed: 101 Hotel

Our experience at the Blue Lagoon was super calm and relaxing. We purchased tickets for the opening time, and there were very few people there that early. We put mud on our faces, looked like mimes, (naturally then pretended to mime), and floated through the milky water with ice cold drinks. When we were leaving, however, the locker rooms were packed to the brim, with long lines everywhere. If you are able to, I really recommend booking an 8am reservation and avoiding the crowds.

Post thermal-soaking, we continued on to Reykjavík to explore! The streets are lined with colorful, corrugated steel homes, and there is street art everywhere. We stopped at Reykjavík Roasters for perfectly brewed iced coffee, and then continued along the streets (picking up some Icelandic sweaters and mittens along the way)! Lunch was at the famous Bæjarins Beztu, while dinner was at the mouth watering Icelandic Fish & Chips; and with 23 hours of daylight, the night was forever young! We had a few beers at Kaffibarinn, then stopped by Kaldi – but Mikkeller & Friends was our favorite spot. On the second floor, there is a no-name pizza and cocktail bar, mixing up beautifully presented drinks. On the third floor, you will find all of the sours and saisons your heart could desire. We watched the midnight sun from here, before wandering back to our hotel a few doors down.

During our time in the city, we discovered a few more tasty gems: Sandholt (bakery) and Stofan (coffee). Dill (dinner) and Bergsson Mathús (breakfast). Valdís (ice cream) and Krás Götumatur (open air food market with everything from frites to tacos to popcorn)!

Next stop: Southern Iceland!
