Laurel Springs School continues our “Meetings with Remarkable Men & Women” symposium series on March 31st. Our guest speaker is Louise Piper, Co-Founder and Trustee of The Haller Foundation. Haller has been instrumental in developing the amazing Bamburi Haller Park in Kenya, and works to enhance economic sustainability in the region.

Ms. Piper grew up in Africa, where her father worked for 35 years. After graduating with a law degree from Cambridge, she spent nearly 20 years working as an investment banker with JP Morgan in the financial markets of London, New York and the Far East. As a former colleague of Guido Haller she visited Kenya to see the work of his father, Swiss naturalist Rene Haller. Ms. Piper was inspired by Rene Haller’s determination to turn the desolate Bamburi Cement Quarry in Kenya into an ecological paradise full of giraffe, hippopotamus, tilapia, alligators, snakes, tortoise, bushbuck, elands, ox, and other animals.  This was a feat that everyone believed was impossible. Ms. Piper became inspired by the potential for the Haller model to help the poor in Sub-Saharan Africa. She co-founded The Haller Foundation to promote the principals Dr. Haller used to create the Bamburi Haller Park.

Join us on Monday, March 31st for this inspiring symposium: “A Kenyan Journey – Transforming a Desolate Cement Quarry into an Ecological Paradise.” Our program begins at 9:00 am Pacific Time (12:00 pm Eastern Time). Please check the LMS for a link to register.
