Father’s Day is drawing closer, and we bet you once again have no idea what you’re doing to celebrate Dad, right? It’s all good, because dads are usually a little easier to please than moms. Just hand them a burger, a beer and some good music and they’ll be happy. Since that’s all you really have to do to secure your title as the ‘Favorite Child’, we’ve put together a list of some of the hippest bars in LA with the coolest décor, so you can treat Dad to the finer things in life this Father’s Day – burgers, beer and good design!
Father’s Office, Santa Monica
With a name like Father’s Office, this Santa Monica hotspot is almost too perfect a place to spend Father’s Day with dear old Dad. The gourmet burgers and endless draft beer options will give your Dad plenty to rave about and the sleek mid-century modern decor will ensure that he doesn’t feel like he’s stepped right back into the office.
Nice Guy, West Hollywood
If Dad is all about a touch of Hollywood glamour, bring him to the Nice Guy for a speciality cocktail and a bite of Italian food. This latest venture from the guys who brought you Bootsy Bellows, Hooray Henry’s and Shorebar, is inspired by the “nice guys” of the mafia. With its mod yellow and white floral-patterned booths, wood paneling, marble countertops, and red velvet cushions, you might expect to see a young Diane Keaton circa The Godfather walk through the door. Described as having a “Good Fellas lounge vibe”, this bar’s friendly atmosphere is sure to bring your Dad back in time to the good ol’ days.
Goal, Mid-City
This intimate sports bar will allow you and Dad to catch up with the game and one another. With a boat-shaped bar, round booths, wall-to-wall TV’s, and Tex-Mex fare, it’s guaranteed that your Dad will be pleased with what Goal has to offer for Father’s Day.
The Tasting Kitchen, Venice
Bring your hip Dad to The Tasting Kitchen for Father’s Day Brunch. With a large range of speciality cocktails and amazing Mediterranean-inspired food, the foliage heavy décor of this restaurant/bar is almost secondary. The contemporary outdoor vibes of the Abbot Kinney hotspot will definitely put a smile on Dad’s face.
The Wellesbourne, Downtown
For the intellectual father, The Wellesbourne delivers a sophisticated, book-lined bar with classic cocktails and an Old World ambiance. This bar will basically transport you to a pub in the English countryside complete with a stone fireplace, coffered ceilings, paintings of Old English scenes, and library walls with a large selection of books you can pick up and read during your visit. If your Dad is in town from New England, this is the spot to sip a Brandy Alexander together.
Playa Provisions/Grain, Playa Del Rey
Modeled after a country mart, this restaurant/food hall by day opens its doors after 5pm to Grain, its whiskey-bar counterpart. The hidden, speakeasy style room is decorated by streamlined floor to ceiling oak and boasts over three dozen bourbons to satisfy the whiskey lover’s palate. Pair a carefully crafted cocktail with deviled crispy chicken skin toast (with cornichons and habanero sauce) and you’ve got yourself a solid date with Dad.
Pattern Bar, Fashion District
This place can get pretty wild at night, but the fashion-themed bar, accessorized with vintage sewing machines, checkerboard floors and subway-tiled walls has a great Happy Hour and really good sandwiches. If your Dad is a regular LA guy, he will appreciate the atmosphere and good food and drink, even though the cocktails have been named after fashion’s finest like Cartier and McQueen.
Sassafras Saloon, Hollywood
Have an Old Fashioned with Dad at this Old West themed whiskey bar. By night, this saloon offers live music, a hip crowd, and an excellent mixologist, but if Dad’s not up for a party, hit it in the earlier hours and enjoy the vintage vibes that might make you feel a little more like you hopped into a New Orleans jazz bar than the Old West (both should be much appreciated by Dad).
The Hungry Cat, Santa Monica Canyon
Situated right along the PCH, this fine seafood restaurant and bar has unbeatable ocean views. As the third iteration of the popular Hollywood Hungry Cat (the other location is in Santa Barbara), the bunker-like building with its ocean blue walls, minimalist design, and ultra-fresh seafood pays homage to the Chesapeake Bay. This Father’s Day, the restaurant is hosting a Father’s Day Pig Roast, offering favorite beers and bourbons paired with an a-la-carte, pork heavy menu. Honestly, is there anything more ideal for Father’s Day than great views, great beer, and mouth-watering good meat?
Whether Pops is a sports guy, a foodie, a beer connoisseur, or just a really hip Dad, one of these beautifully designed LA spots is sure to be just the place to honor all of the hard work he’s put into fathering you! Happy Father’s Day!
