Heels make you look sexy, slimmer and boost your confidence. They may not be the most comfortable shoes out there, but they are essentials. You don't need to wear the highest of heels before you feel like you've pulled off a good look. Low heels( 2_4ft), are appropriate for daytime and the higher ones are more suitable for a night out. Buy your perfect size, you can buy a size up because they can still be tweaked to fit you,but a small size will cause you nothing but pain. So go to the boutique and test it before picking it out.
Start small, go for a 2 or 3inch heel if you are a beginner then work your way up. Preferably, go for wedges,they offer more balance.
Once you've picked the right one, get your feet to break into them by wearing them few hours a day, walking around in them or climbing the stairs.
Take short strides, walk by placing the heels of the feet before the toe and take short strides, don't attempt to cover large paces at once ,take it slowly

Make sure you are balanced before attempting to actually walk in them
If they start hurting you,try to move a little, take little steps or sit down for a while
