Everyone recognizes the problems and headaches that come with health insurance. Jack Hooper and his wife experienced this first hand not long ago, when they found out she was pregnant with twins.

“No one could help us figure out what having twins on a student health plan was going to cost,” Jack explained. He and his wife were thrilled about the addition to their family, but the more Jack researched, “the more I realized everyone has this problem with health insurance–it’s a confusing black box,” he says.

Since then, Jack has been on a mission to bring clarity and transparency to the process of choosing health insurance — which is why he founded Take Command Health.

Take Command Health is a guided interview, similar to Turbo Tax, and built on an analytics platform that “empowers people to choose smarter and save money on health insurance.”

“We put our users in control,” Jack explains. “Our simple online interview analyzes a multitude of plans and scenarios to help our users find the best plan tailored to their needs.”

Just by eliminating confusion and choosing smarter, “most people can save about $500 a year on health insurance and health related expenses.”

Some of the Take Command features include:

True Cost Comparisons – Compare plans by what you’ll actually pay.

Doctor search – Make sure your favorite doctors, hospitals, dentists, etc. are in your network.

One Stop, Comparison Shop – Compare plans across provider networks and insurance companies.

Interactive Report – Experiment with “what if” scenarios to see what your costs will be.

Jack and his CTO, Matthew McPhail are excited about the milestones that they’ve hit throughout the process of building.

“We’ve completed the first version of our web app and analytics engine. We were announced as a finalist for the Robert Woods Plan Choice Challenge and are now licensed in Texas with the 4 major carriers.”

The Take Command Health team is excited to host a special event for the Dallas startup community by offering free consultations for individuals and startups looking to understand the best options to choose during open enrollment (which starts November 15). Sign up for consultations here.

“We’re aiming to aid entrepreneurs and small business startups with their health insurance needs. Our goal by the end of the year is 1,000 satisfied customers so that we can raise some money from investors,” says Jack.
