Andrew Dice Clay made the leather jacket and smoking on stage iconic in the world of stand-up comedy. The controversial rhyming comic has released an autobiography, written with David Ritz, to explain his rise to fame from his own point of view. The Filthy Truth hit the shelves as Andrew Dice Clay’s uncensored life story. Dice was one of the biggest names in comedy in the 1980s, selling out large venues like Madison Square Garden. He has always been known as politically incorrect and raunchy, infamously associated with his adult nursery rhymes routine. But his edgy material led to accusations of misogyny and homophobia as well as a lifetime ban from MTV in 1989 (which was lifted in 2011).
Only recently has Andrew Dice Clay returned to the spotlight after 20 years of laying low. After roles on HBO’s Entourage and the Woody Allen film Blue Jasmine, Dice’s The Filthy Truth explains the difference between “Dice” and Andrew Clay Silverstein (his real name). The book is filled with stories from his height of fame and anecdotes about becoming a father. The Filthy Truth is now available in stores nationwide.
