During a recent visit to Puerto Vallarta, I was a guest at the Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta, a Mexico beach resort hotel with lots of amenities and great views. Here is a review of my experience.

THE STYLE: Traditional Mexican Pacific style runs throughout the property; the most striking visual element upon arriving at the Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta hotel is the giant palapa, an eight-story thatched roof that soars dramatically over the attractive, open-air lobby, where Pacific Ocean breezes provide cool refreshment — and a glimpse of the large pool area and beach just behind the main building.

THE GUEST ROOMS: The view is a big selling point at this Puerto Vallarta hotel. My room had a stunning ocean view, complete with a balcony with two chairs and flowers. The very creative housekeeping staff even spelled out “Welcome Home” using colored rice on a sheet atop my king-size bed.

My room, which was on the Club Level, had a good selection of amenities, including a bathrobe, comfortable bed, safe deposit box, coffee maker, paid mini bar, and a bathroom stocked with a hair dryer and Somma Wine Spa bath products from Somma Wine Spa in Baja California — including rather large-sized shampoo, bath gel, conditioner, body lotion and a glycerine soap bar.

HOTEL FEATURES: Beautiful, lush landscaping surrounds the large, free-form swimming pool, and large palm trees provide welcome shade along the hotel’s attractive stretch of Mexico beach. A nearby open-air restaurant, Chulavista, serves a large breakfast buffet that I really enjoyed (and also offers nice beach views). Other dining options include La Hacienda, which features a-la-carte Mexican cuisine, and L’Isola, which specializes in Italian cuisine for dinner. Three bars round out the food and beverage offerings.

Families who travel with kids will likely be interested in the Fiesta Kids Club, which offers supervised activities that include pool and beach games, arts and sports — and grown-ups can stay in shape at the exercise center.

The location is also convenient for taking taxis and other transportation to various attractions and activities in Puerto Vallarta — including Dolphin Discovery, where I enjoyed swimming with dolphins, and Puerto Vallarta’s always-fun downtown, which is about 10 minutes away by car.

BEST FOR: Travelers looking for a full-service hotel with large beachfront pool, lots of amenities and pleasant views, with reasonable rates (prices start as low as $89). It’s a good choice for a Mexico beach vacation.
