Florida police are still searching for a 9-week-old baby after the newborn’s drug-using parents changed their story about what happened to the boy.

Police were alerted about the missing baby after his grandmother contacted the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office last Sunday to say the family had not seen the newborn, named Chance Walsh, in nearly a month.

Chance’s parents, Kristen Bury and Joseph Walsh, have changed their story a number of times. First they told deputies that they gave the baby away at a hotel in Georgia. They then claimed Chance had died in a car crash in South Carolina before telling police the baby was fine.

Bury and Walsh were arrested on child neglect charges. Police documents indicate investigators found blood on a bed in the family’s apartment, but did not confirm whose blood it was.

Both Bury and Walsh have past criminal records including arrests for drugs, burglary and theft. They are being held on $150,000 bonds as police continue to search for Chance.

“I get nauseous over these kinds of cases,” said Sarasota Sheriff’s Capt. Charlie Thorpe.

“It’s beyond frustrating, because someone knows what happened. Just tell us what happened. We’re talking about a child here.”
