Representatives of the Yukon government are in Las Vegas NV this weekend promoting the territory as a world-class hunting destination.
Tourism minister Mike Nixon is speaking with 13 Yukon-based outfitters, & others from around the world, at the Safari Club International Convention & trade show.
He says the Yukon has one of the world’s best wildlife management systems. Nixon says business for local outfitters trickles down to other businesses in the territory.
“They don’t just pick them up at the airport & take them out to their concession & start hunting,” Nixon said. “They encourage people to spend a day or two extra in town, either on the front end or the back end or both of their hunt, so the shop owners are going to see a benefit to this as well.”
According to the Yukon government, the outfitting industry generates about $8 million dollars for the territory each year. Nixon says his priority is to assist Yukon outfitters get a bigger share of the global market.
