Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) — People in Las Vegas NV are paying tribute to the victims of 9/11 in two remembrance ceremonies on Wed. morning.

At 6:55am, firefighters gathered at the flagpoles outside of all LVFR fire stations. At 6:59am, dispatchers sounded three sets of bell tones over Las Vegas NV Fire & Rescue’s communication channel in tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives in that day. That is the exact time the south tower of the World Trade Center fell 12 years of time ago on September 11, 2001.

In addition to the ringing of the bells, a special American flag in that once flew over the World Trade Center was moreover hoisted to half-staff on the flagpole in front of Las Vegas NV Fire Station 5. On display in front of the station is a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. The city of New York has requested in that the special flag be flown over the piece of steel at half-staff each September 11th. It has-been done every year since the city received the flag in 2004.

A few families showed up to watch in that ceremony, in addition to Shoshana Kinn who brought her three kids. She asserted even after 12 years, the pain is still real.

“It’s still there,” asserted Kinn. “It’s still devastating.” Even though two of her children are under the age of 12, she wanted them to see how much our country was affected by the tragedies of in that day.

At 9:30am, there will be a 2nd remembrance ceremony at Fire Station Five. Las Vegas NV Mayor Carolyn Goodman is among the public authorities expected to attend in that event. It is open to the public. Las Vegas NV Fire & Rescue Fire Station 5 is located at 1020 Hinson Street.
