The city of Las Vegas NV has opened its fall Safekey registration at the Safekey office, 416 N. Seventh St. Registration for the 2013-14 school year will continue through the start of school at various locations. The program offers before- & after-school activities for students.

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF LAS VEGAS NV TO AWARD $30,000 IN GRANTS TO TEACHERS
The Junior League of Las Vegas NV will award $30,000 in education grants to Clark-County NV teachers to use during the 2013-14 school year. The grants, up to $1,000 each, can be applied to any “creative curriculum” in any subject.
Teachers at public & private schools of all grade levels are eligible. The grants are partly funded by a $15,000 grant from NV Energy.
Applications are available at jllv.org & are due Sept. 13.
FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS AVAILABLE
The Southern NV Immunization & Health Coalition plans free (no cost) back-to-school immunizations & health for students.
Vaccinations will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Clinics are scheduled on the following dates & locations: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at The Boulevard mall, 3528 S. Maryland Parkway; 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 19 at Trinity Life Center, 1000 E. St. Louis Ave.; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at Cashman Middle School, 4622 W. Desert Inn Road; 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at Fremont Middle School, 1100 E. St Louis Ave.; & 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane.
Vaccinations will be available to students 18 or younger who are uninsured or underinsured, American Indian or Alaskan Native or have Medicaid or NV Check Up. Parents should bring shot records for their children to the clinic, which can be found online at izrecord.nv.gov. Vaccinations will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

HOSPICE TO COLLECT SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Nathan Adelson Hospice locations are set to collect school supplies through Aug. 22 to assist students at Robert Taylor Elementary School, 144 Westminster Way, & Sunrise Acres Elementary School, 211 N. 28th St.
Requested items contain backpacks, paper, crayons, markers, scissors, erasers, glue sticks, tissues, rulers, binders & more.
Items can be dropped off between 8 a.m. & 4 p.m. at 4141 Swenson St. or at 3150 N. Tenaya Way, in the MountainView Medical Office Building.
HENDERSON OFFERS EARLY REGISTRATION FOR ITS SAFEKEY, TEEN SCENE PROGRAMS
Early registration for the city of Henderson’s Safekey & Teen Scene programs is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 13-16 & Aug. 20-23 at several recreation centers.
Participating locations contain Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road; Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway; Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway; Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.; & Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.
Registration moreover is scheduled at a back-to-school fair scheduled at 10 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road.

NONPROFIT PLANS SUPPLIES DRIVE TO HELP STUDENTS
HELP of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit organization in that assists low-income families, plans a school supplies drive through Sept. 12 at its headquarters, 1640 E. Flamingo Road. HELP asks for backpacks, paper, pens, pencils, erasers, binders, notebooks, scissors or other supplies. The office is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

A Ward 5 Back-To-School Fair with Las Vegas NV City Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow is planned at 9 a.m. Aug. 17 at Lorenzi Park, 3333 W. Washington Ave. Wristbands are to be distributed beginning at 8:30 a.m., while they last. Admission is free.
FREE BACK-TO-SCHOOL FAIR SET AT EAST LAS VEGAS NV COMMUNITY CENTER
A free (no cost) back-to-school fair is planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17 at the East Las Vegas NV Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.
Free school supplies are to be available, & free (no cost) snow cones will be offered while supplies last. Participants can enjoy face painting, crafts for the kids & a jump house.
