All you need is love? Not parents on Valentine’s Day. They need child care, too.
Las Vegas-area parents needing a little adult time away from bath time, story time and children’s bedtime can get help from the My Sitters App, a baby sitter-scheduling smartphone app offered by local entrepreneur Kim Miramontes.
According to Miramontes , the app has yielded 75 percent of the requests for sitters to her College Nannies and Tutors business; the rest come by phone. The app was launched last year.
“The convenience is great for busy families, and the ease of use ensures that families are always set for a sitter,” she said.
In its annual Valentine’s Day Consumer Spending Survey, the National Retail Federation’s forecasts 54.8 percent of American consumers will celebrate Valentine’s Day, spending an average of $146.84. Miramontes expects some of this money to go toward impromptu evening childcare.
All College Nannies and Tutors clients can use the app. Parents load information about their family and children and the app returns a list of possible sitters. Families can browse sitters’ profiles and availability before scheduling one.
“The app makes it possible to schedule a sitter 24/7, she said. “It’s perfect for Las Vegas families on the go.” The app promises results within four hours of a designated time. “Parents know that they can plan a date night anytime and they are always set for a sitter.”
The app is free to download but to use the service, parents must become clients. For the month of February to the end of March (end of spring break), the company will donate a book to Spread the Word Nevada for every app download and sitter booked through the app.
