TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, announced at the end of last month the winners of their 2013 Certificates of Excellence.
These awards are on their 3rd edition and they don't replace the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice® Awards. In fact, they are an extension of the TripAdvisor recognition of highly rated businesses, as reviewed by travellers on their website.
To qualify, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.
In Spain alone a whopping 7,886 certificates have been awarded, more than half of them 3,964 being restaurants, 3,345 hotels and 557 places of interest. Or in TripAdvisor's terminology: eateries, accommodation and attractions.
The Canaries came in 3rd place by region with a total of 1,184 awards. And among the Canaries, Lanzarote has been awarded 332 certificates, 220 of which are
eateries, 95 accommodation and 17 attractions. You can find a full list of winners at the end of this post.
TripAdvisor also advises (no pun intended!) the winners on how to make the most of their awards:
1) Display the certificate physically in your establishment in a prominent way
2) Display it virtually too on your website
3) Issue a press release and distribute among the media in your area
4) Make the most of the social networks
5) Notify your customers
6) And celebrate, don't forget to celebrate!

Now, about Lanzarote's list... some bars appear as an "attraction" (!?) whereas the majority appear under "eatery". And I have spotted one establishment appearing twice under two different categories. Then again, it may qualify for both due to its different functionalities, you could argue.
