You love being home with your little one, but this often puts a strain on the family budget. Chances are that you are wondering if you could work from home somehow. The answer to that is a definite YES! Many stay at home mom’s have income earning jobs, you just have to know where to look. Depending on your skills and how much time you have, you could start generating a little extra income for your family and still spend quality time with your  family.

Take a look at the top 10 very doable and flexible jobs for stay at home moms.

1. Host an Exchange Student

If you live near a university or college and have an extra bedroom, you are a prime candidate for hosting an exchange student. Many students come to the US to attend school to learn English. Exchange students love to learn about American culture, look forward to practicing their English, and want to experience real family life in America. They have their own spending money and you can make up house rules for them to follow. Most exchange students only stay a few semesters. Contact your university or college student exchange program for details.

2. Tutoring or Teaching a Musical Instrument

If you were a whiz at math or English, you might want to consider tutoring students in your home. Search Craigslist, local schools, and leave flyers at schools around town. You set the hours, so you can work when you like and take on as many students as you feel you can handle. If you know how to play a musical instrument, such as piano or violin, you can also give lessons, at your home, at your convenience. There is always a market for tutors for both academics and music; why not put your knowledge to work and earn some much needed cash?!

While this sounds a bit daunting, it’s easier than it sounds.  If you love to decorate cakes, for example, you could start offering your services around town. Make flyers, tell your friends and relatives. If you love to write, there are numerous sites online where you can get paid to write e-books, translate documents or articles, or even do voice overs for commercials. Do a Google search of “free lancing” and you might be surprised at all the work out there that is just waiting for you!

4. Sales

If you have lots of friends, family, and/or acquaintances (perhaps a church group or support group) then you might want to consider sales. Many companies, such as Mary Kay, Avon, Tupperware, and even lingerie companies such as Sheer Expressions, are always looking for outside salespersons. Pick a product or company you love and let everyone know about it! Some of these jobs do require some preparation (especially home parties), but others simply allow you to leave catalogs and samples with people you know.  Sales are one of the most common jobs for stay at home moms, so there must be a paycheck somewhere!

5. Daycare, After School Care, and/or Babysitting

You certainly have the toys and the experience, so why not make some money at the same time? You can offer after school care for kids who are waiting for their parents to come home from work or you might want to babysit a neighbor’s child for some extra income while she is working. Of course, this might involve a bit more clean up and making an extra bottle or a sandwich, but what’s one more diaper at the end of the day, right?  Taking care of more than one child might require a license, so check with your local city office before you dive in.

6. Notary Public

This is one of our favorite jobs for stay at home moms. This job has the potential to earn you some serious bucks. Now you will have to pay for a class and your materials, as well as  being bonded, and prices for this can vary from state to state, but afterwards, it’s as easy as filling out a piece of paper, watching someone sign some documents, and you get paid. You can go to a public place to do this, have clients come to your home, or you can go to their home, the choice is yours. The average income (keep in mind, this is merely an average, many people earn far less and far more) is $15,000 a year.

Organic, homemade items are hot sellers right now as everyone is looking to avoid unwanted chemicals. Make some cash doing what you love by selling your items online.

9. Telephone Interviewer

This isn’t sales, but rather, surveys taken over the phone from a wide variety of companies. All this requires is the gift of gab, an internet connection and a Skype account, in most cases. Many of these jobs are very flexible and you are paid by the number of surveys you complete.

10. Write Reviews

Some companies will actually send you their product for free in exchange for an honest review about the item. Sign up at places like Sponsored Reviews or Pay per post. While some jobs pay cash, many pay with products, but free stuff is still good, right?

Keep in mind that there are lots of scams out there, so be selective and research any company you are considering working for.
