Benchmark Litigation: Lane Powell was recently named “Washington Firm of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation, a litigation-focused legal guide that evaluates leading law firms and attorneys. The Firm was named for its strength of case matters over the year, including precedent set or verdicts with notable high-dollar amounts at stake. Each year, a select group of Lane Powell Shareholders are named “local litigation stars,” and a select group of attorneys are recognized as “future stars.” In addition, Lane Powell’s litigation practice has been consistently recommended in Benchmark Litigation since 2008. Recommendations are based on interviews with the nation’s leading private practice lawyers and in-house counsel.
Best Law Firms/U.S. News: Lane Powell is consistently recognized as one of the nation’s “Best Law Firms” by U.S. News and Best Lawyers. Nationally, the Firm received top rankings in 13 practice areas, from Banking and Finance to Intellectual Property Litigation and Mass Tort Litigation/Class Action Defense. Across Portland and Seattle, the Firm is named in nearly 50 practice areas. The rankings are based on an evaluation process that involves collecting client and lawyer evaluations, peer reviews from leading attorneys in their field, and reviews of additional information provided by law firms.
Best Lawyers: Lane Powell attorneys are regularly named as “Best Lawyers” by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® for their professional achievements. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.” Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States, based on its rigorous national survey involving more than 3.9 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers.
BTI Consulting: Lane Powell is named on BTI Consulting’s Client Recommendations Honor Roll in “The BTI Brand Elite: Client Perceptions of the Best-Branded Law Firm” report, which is based solely on in-depth interviews with corporate counsel at more than 3,400 of the world’s largest and most influential companies. The BTI Consulting Group is the leading provider of strategic research to law firms and general counsel. In addition, BTI ranked Lane Powell within the top 10 percent among 650 law firms serving large and Fortune 1000 companies in the “BTI Client Service A-Team” survey, which is selected based on in-house counsel’s ranking of 17 activities driving superior client relationships, including commitment to help, understanding the client’s business, providing value for the dollar and keeping clients informed.
Chambers USA: Lane Powell attorneys and practice groups are regularly selected by their peers and clients for inclusion in the prestigious legal rankings guide Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business for their technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment and other qualities valued by the client. Each year, the research team at Chambers carries out thousands of in-depth interviews with clients and attorneys in order to assess the reputations and expertise of business lawyers in 175 countries across the world.
Corporate Counsel Magazine: Lane Powell has been named a “Go-To Law Firm®” in a national reference guide by Corporate Counsel magazine titled “In-House Law Departments at the Top 500 Companies” for multiple years running. Nominees are chosen from a Corporate Counsel national survey of general counsel from the top 500 companies, coupled with in-depth research and analysis of various public filings and resources.
Corporate Philanthropy: Lane Powell has been recognized as a “Top Corporate Philanthropist” in Puget Sound Business Journal and Portland Business Journal for several years running. This award honors businesses and their philanthropic efforts through strategic and innovative giving. It is a reflection of the Firm’s dedication to helping our communities thrive, sharing its success with the community through pro bono work, volunteering, board memberships, fundraisers, sponsorships and donations.
Legal Marketing Association: Lane Powell received a Legal Marketing Association’s (“LMA”) “Your Honor Award” in the Community Relations category (Northwest Chapter) for co-founding and participating in the Northwest Minority Job Fair since its inception in 1987 and for continued commitment to diversifying the legal community. Lane Powell has also received awards from the LMA in the Media Relations category and in the Website Design category. The LMA awards recognize Pacific Northwest law firms that have illustrated creativity, execution, achievement and overall excellence in legal marketing, business development and communications.
Martindale-Hubbell: Lane Powell is named by Martindale-Hubbell® (“Martindale”) to its “Top Ranked Law Firms™” list. Currently, more than 47 percent of Lane Powell attorneys are AV-rated, which is an objective indicator of a lawyer’s high ethical standards and professional ability, generated from evaluations of lawyers by other members of the bar and the judiciary in the United States and Canada. Top Ranked Firms named have at least 1/3 (or 33 percent) of attorneys who have received an “AV” rating, which, according to Martindale, is “a testament to the fact that a lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence.” Martindale has a database of more than 250,000 law firms; of those, less than 2,500 firms are named to its Top Ranked list.
Oregon Business Magazine: Lane Powell is consistently named as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For in Oregon” by Oregon Business magazine, which is based on confidential employee surveys measuring employee satisfaction in five categories, including benefits and compensation, work environment, decision-making and trust, performance management, and career development and learning. Each year, more than 260 employers participate and more than 14,000 employees complete the survey.
Oregon State Bar: Lane Powell is recognized by the Oregon State Bar Sustainable Future Section as a “Partner in Sustainability” for its sustainable office practices. Created in 2012, the Partners in Sustainability Program encourages law firms of all sizes to adopt sustainable office practices and it honors those firms that satisfy the Section’s criteria for sustainable office practices.
Puget Sound Business Journal: Since 2007, Lane Powell has been named as one of Puget Sound Business Journal’s “Washington’s Best Workplaces,” which identifies and recognizes best practices in the hiring and retention of great people. Of the more than 230 submissions by companies, only 85 were announced as finalists in the four categories: small-, medium-, large- and extra-large-sized companies, based on number of employees.
Super Lawyers (Oregon; Washington; Alaska): Lane Powell attorneys are regularly named as “Super Lawyers” and “Rising Stars” in their geographic location for attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only five percent of attorneys in each state are given this honor. Each year, Thomson Reuters conducts a comprehensive selection process composed of peer nominations, a blue ribbon panel review process and independent research on candidates.
World Trademark Review 1000: Lane Powell was named one of the “Top Trademark Law Firms in Oregon” by the World Trademark Review 1000. The publication, which is a guide dedicated to identifying the world’s leading trademark legal service providers, stated that Lane Powell “hosts a strong cadre of trademark practitioners” and “wins particular renown for its contentious work, where the driven and tenacious team is distinguished by its substantial trial experience.” In addition to the Firm being named, individual attorneys were also named as top individuals in trademark law in Oregon and in Washington.
