Preston based Lunar Caravans secured sales with a retail value of £7.38 million last month when it attended The Motorhome & Caravan at the NEC Birmingham.

The Show is the biggest event of its kind on the calendar and the national launchpad for the forthcoming season new model ranges.

The Lancashire manufacturer unveiled its extensive new 2014 caravan range, its innovative Vacanza Camper Car and a new line of Camper Car accessories to over 100,000 Show visitors.

Lunar caravan sales were strong across all models thanks in part to the introduction of ‘Core’ lightweight technology which has helped Lunar to reduce the weight of its new range by as much as 55kg. The Quasar, Clubman/Delta and Lexon ranges were all popular with buyers.

The highlight of the show and the model which saw the largest increase in sales compared to previous events was the new model Quasar. The popularity of the Quasar can be attributed to the new 2014 design which is lighter in weight, has improved thermal properties and has updated specification, furnishings and appliances.

Lunar has manufactured leisure vehicles for both UK and European markets in Lancashire for over 40 years. Lunar currently employs over 250 people from Preston and the surrounding area.

As one of the UK’s top five manufacturers, Lunar contributed significantly to the production of over 20,000 new touring caravans in 2012. According to the NCC, the UK Caravan Industry contributes approximately £6bn p.a. to the UK economy.

In addition to strong sales, Lunar also received two prestigious industry awards at last month’s Show. The 2014 Caravan Club Design Awards and The Lightweight Leisure Trailer Awards took place during the Birmingham event. Lunar won two awards in two leading categories.

Lunar chairman and CEO Brain Mellor said: “We were proud to display our 2014 range at the Show and delighted that so many quality visitors came to view and to buy. These sales give us a great start to the 2014 season and are encouraging for the leisure vehicle industry as a whole.”
