Pequot Lakes, start your engines. The Pequot Lakes Lions Club hosted their 7th annual Cherry Car Show this weekend at Trailside Park. More than 80 cars were shown off during the event to raise money for charity as well as bring people together.
Pequot Lakes Lions Club member, Gary Amundson, says, “Just the comradery and see other friends that are in the Lions Club. And the different faces of the people that come through town. Friends and family of a lot a people and acquaintances and a general get together. It’s a nice day on a Saturday afternoon in sunny Minnesota.”
Greg Seils, classic car judge from Crow Wing Auto Body, says, “Just hopefully we had enough nice cars out here today that people got to enjoy. Just out here for the people to enjoy the people and town and help the businesses out here.”
There were awards handed out this year from farther traveled to best paint. While not every car can take home a prize, the real award for the owners is getting to show off their cars.
Owner of a 1965 Ford Mustang, Marlin Parry, says, “It’s a unique color for a Ford. And a lot of people come by and say it’s a very attractive car. In fact four years ago here she won ladies’ choice.”
Rick Rudbeck, winner of Restored of Stock to 1935 with his 1931 Graham Sedan, says, “Been a lot of fun. Bring it to car shows meet a lot of nice people. Get a lot of looks. You know it’s old, 1931, it’s back in the Al Capone days.”
For some of these car owners having these classics brings them and the people around them back in time. Just like this 1929 Ford. And the owners use them to live out fantasies.
Rudbeck says, “Yeah it’s fun. Yeah I want to get a mannequin with Al Capone in the back with two hired hands with tommy guns hanging on to it. Wouldn’t that be cool?”
Parry says, “We cruse every other Thursday through some place to eat. And this is not a trailer queen, I drive it.”
The Lions Club says they’re happy their 7th car show was a success and they’ve already begun plans for their 8th next year.
