David Scott is a New York-based interior designer with a penchant for color and a talent for creating beautiful spaces that seamlessly blend the classic with an air of modernity– timeless silhouettes are paired perfectly with the sleek and contemporary. David Scott Interiors was founded over 20 years ago and in that time, David has produced countless chic spaces perfectly suited to both town and country from Park Avenue apartments to homes in Connecticut and The Hamptons.
David’s work is distinctly tailored and sophisticated, a reflection of his personal aesthetic as well as his surroundings. His work has appeared in publications such as Architectural Digest, The New York Times, House Beautiful, ELLE DECOR, and World of Interiors. David has also published his first design tome, Out of the Box which features 11 of his most exquisite design projects to date. Our recent conversation for “The Style Files” cemented the fact that David’s greatest driving factor and satisfaction are one and the same– creating beautiful, functional spaces for his clients. Paloma Contreras: How would you describe your style?
David Scott: A comfortable blend of timeless elegance of the past with the functionality of the present.
PC: Has living in New York influenced the way you decorate?
DS: It certainly does…New York has an extraordinary mix of cultures and is constantly changing. My style is always responsive to my clients’ preferences, however, I find new ideas that germinate from simply walking the street of the city.
PC: What does your home say about you?
DS: My homes are comfortable and filled with an eclectic mix of vintage & modern furnishings and art. My apartment, born first as a mid-1960s glass envelope now embodies my 21st century soul.
PC: Where do you turn for inspiration?
DS: Nature & travel are always incredible influences.
PC: Who are your personal style icons?
DS: James Bond, all of them!
PC: What is your guilty pleasure?
DS: Guilt?… I really prefer to focus on pleasure.
PC: What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
DS: My friends and family relationships are truly the most important part of my life. Being able to get up every day and have a career that allows me to grow and do what I love is a close second though.
PC: Who/what has been your greatest professional influence?
DS: Art & Books
PC: What is your idea of living “la dolce vita”?
DS: Entertaining friends, feeding my passion for art & antiques, and spending time with my partner and two mini Dachsunds.

DS: I’m fortunate to continue to create dream homes for my incredible clients.
