Welcome to Meanwhile, In SGV a regular feature in which TC, our fearless leader in all things San Gabriel Valley, brings word of restaurant openings, closings, and other unsung, curious neighborhood goings on.

1) San Gabriel: Boston Lobster, an apparent Newport Tang Cang knock off, has opened. House dish: spicy fried lobster over noodles, obviously. Meanwhile, the rest of WSGV awaits the opening of Shi Hai in Alhambra.

2) Rosemead: One Plus One Melting Pot, from the team behind One Plus One Dumpling House in Chino Hills, has opened next to Chengdu Taste 2. Despite the name, no fondue is served here. 1+1, which is unrelated to One on One , doles out individual Boiling Point-inspired hot pots with flavor profiles that lean towards the spicier and numbing side. The signature dish is the Chengdu pot. 8526 Valley Blvd Ste 106

3) Alhambra: Hot Red Bus, the Indian-British mash-up, has reopened after the brief make-over which accompanied the new beer and wine license. The biggest news here may be the double-fried Kennebec fries that replaced the old food service frozen fries. 31 E Main St

4) Alhambra: Tasty Dumpling House has taken over the the vegan chain Loving Hut, which suffered shutter alert the moment it opened. Tasty Dumpling isn't related to Tasty Noodle down the street and so far, the tri-colore, freshly wrapped dumplings are proving to be a hit. 621 W Main St

5) Monterey Park: Spirit House, the only place to drink craft beer within Monterey Park city borders, is now open on Sundays. Hours are 2-8 P.M. 123 S Lincoln Ave.

6) Monterey Park: A new dessert shop is opening next to KT Cafe. The build-out is nowhere complete, so Premiere Dessert might be a long ways off. 501 W Garvey Ave

7) Alhambra: As expected, The Grids has shuttered. This waffle-which concept didn't make it to one year. 1468 E Valley Blvd
