Sycamore Tavern flipped the former Happy Ending, but kept the TVs

More news on the elusive Sycamore Tavern, which quietly opened about a month ago in the former Happy Ending space on Sunset Boulevard. It seems that for all their secrecy, the Happy to Serve You Hospitality Group (they’re the ones behind Scopa Italian Roots, Black Market Liquor Bar, and more) is running the place. And they’ve got food from chef Antonia Lofaso.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, given that group’s penchant for hip, dim digs that play at the edges of the urban core of LA, either in the Valley or way out west near the water. With Sycamore Tavern the team is going truly maximalist, putting together everything from $10 burgers to pizzas to ceviche to pimento cheese. Heck, they’ve even got a deep-fried Fluffer Nutter dessert.

The space too is much different than the cozy digs you might be used to from owners Sal Aurora and Mario Guddemi. Just like in the Happy Ending days there are TVs everywhere (55 to be exact) playing weekend sports, and a pool table to boot. Much like the new 33 Taps in Silver Lake, it seems the plan here might just be to upscale the modern sports bar.

To that end, you’ll find a long taplist of craft beer options, plus a full cocktail lineup. And this is still a menu overseen by Lofaso, who has bona fide hits on her hand with Black Market Liquor Bar and Scopa. The former Top Chef contestant certainly knows how to cook, considering she's been making awesome comfort food around Los Angeles for years.

Sycamore Tavern is open now, keeping weekday hours from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and weekend hours from 11 a.m. on.
