Angel City Brewery is one of my favorite stops in the Arts District. I love their historic building and the friendly atmosphere of their public house. Oh yeah, and their beer. I really enjoy the brews they have to offer. Luckily, they often send me the latest to sample and recently I had the chance to try a couple.

The Angel City Lager is available in a 12oz bottle which is the perfect size. I love the beautiful 22oz bottles they offer but 12 ounces is just right for a serving. The label states that it’s brewed with grapefruit and honey and I was curious to see if I could detect the flavor when I tried it. Yup! It really does taste like grapefruit with a nice honey finish. I loved it and it’s my new favorite Angel City brew.

As for the Srirachelada – I must admit I was apprehensive to try it. I don’t care for spicy drinks and can’t stand Bloody Mary’s. I was so sure I wouldn’t like it that I took it over my friends’ house and made them try it with me. All of us were skeptical as we lined the rims with chili, poured the beer over ice and added the lime. We toasted and sipped our drinks together. Shockingly, instead of grimaces we were pleasantly surprised. The Srirachelada is simply a beer with a sweet, spicy kick. All of us agreed that it was much better than we envisioned and I ended up drinking most of my glass. Would I order the Srirachelada again? Probably not. But I admire its innovation and know anyone who loves a a good michelada will enjoy it.
