The Latin rock band’s album Corazón debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums Chart
Bio: Santana’s “classic” lineup is back (see below) — most of this group had a hand in the legendary Woodstock performance from 1969 – which featured a smoking rendition of “Soul Sacrifice.”
The San Francisco-based ensemble is centered around lead guitarist and founder Carlos Santana, who has been able to successfully blend Chicano, jazz, psychedelic, blues, and Latin rock for nearly 50 years. It’s no surprise that in 1998, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Last month Santana released Corazón, the band’s 22nd studio album which features collaborations with Gloria Estefan, Ziggy Marley and Cindy Blackman.

Beatnik Song Request: Santana III was one of the many albums given to me by my dad when he got rid of his vinyl collection. I distinctly remember the cover of this one blowing my mind (and I wasn’t even on anything!) Anyway, the trippy, psychedelic, terrifying, spacey cover made me eager to throw it on the turntable and hear what was inside. While all the songs made my hair stand straight up, the one that still stands out for me is “Jungle Strut.” To me, this is vintage Santana: an ongoing assault on bongo drums, heavy, drenching keyboards and psychedelic lead guitar on a Latin scale.
