Over summer I tested a stack of diy and natural beauty treatment for the entire body. Here’s everything I did, what I liked or did and why. Plus a giveaway at the end. One tip, COCONUT OIL!!! It is my favourite beauty product, with multiple uses.

Hair

For dandruff: I’ve mentioned before I make an oil and sugar scrub by mixing 3 parts sugar to 1 part oil. I use this over my whole body too. For dandruff I rub it gently into my scalp, rinse with hot water then shampoo and condition are normal.

Conditioning treatment: Warm up coconut oil and pour it over your hair, root to ends if it is really damaged or just from mid lengths down if you get oily roots. You might remember I trashed my hair last year. It literally broke off in clumps. Now it feels normal again. I could feel over the past year when I hadn’t been using coconut oil as my hair would begin to feel dry on the ends again, but the difference and improvement was still noticeable.

Split ends and fly aways: Again, I use coconut oil, but very tiny amounts for this. For flyaways I sometimes spray hairspray in hands and smooth is over my hair. Cheaper than other products and effective.

Dry shampoo: I just used cornflour. I have preciously spent nearly $10 on a spray can of dry shampoo. Now I just sprinkle the corn flour in, shake my hair a but and it works so much better.

I did try some other shampoo and conditioning methods such as a mashed banana and honey mask for my hair but it felt awful. I didn’t like vinegar as a rinse either.

Face

Facial: A facial is simply a matter of cleanse, scrub, mask, tone, moisturise. You can try a diy face peel if you prefer instead of a mask. Or for natural masks it depends on your skin type as to what you need but eggs, oats and mashed fruit make good masks.

Eyebrows: if you are not experienced, it is better to get this done by a professional. Properly shaped brows make a huge difference to your face. To colour them daily you can use a pencil, colour like mascara for brows, eye shadow or tint them.

Tint eyelashes: tinting your own lashes isn’t too tricky but takes a little time. I tried oiling my eyelashes to thicken them, but didn’t notice much difference.

Fine lines: use vitamins such as vitamin e oil. Just rub it in the lines and make sure you are getting enough fats in our diet. Also, prevention with sunglasses, hats, suncream and staying out of the sun.

Moisturise: I love coconut oil as a moisturiser too.

Acne: either a dab of tea tree oil on a cotton bud or a dab of toothpaste works wonders on pimples.

Lips: the oil and sugar scrub can be used to gentle exfoliate lips too, then use pawpaw or coconut oil to treat. Can you tell my favourite beauty product yet?

Teeth: I tried the tumeric method, where you brush your teeth with it, but saw no difference. I’ve done bicarb but it made my teeth sensitive. Best method has been oil pulling. It has made my teeth less sensitive, whiter and feel much better.

Body

Body scrub: as mentioned I use oil and sugar.

Detox bath: for a detox bath add epsom salt and some essential oil to a bath then soak for 20minutes or so.

Dry skin: use coconut oil as your moisturiser. It works wells for cracked heels and very dry skin.

Stretch marks & cellulite: I tried a diy weight loss wrap and was amazed that not only did it slim me, but it decreased my stretch marks and cellulite too. Dry body brushing helps as does regular body scrubs and moisturising.

Hands and feet

Diy manicure and pedicures: they aren’t hard to do once you have the tools, which can be used over and over. Nail file, nail buffer, cuticle oil, orange stick, nail polish removed, cotton buds, pedipaddle/pumice stone

Cracked heels: these take time to fix properly, but your best method is soaking them, filing with a pumice stone or foot file, slathering in coconut oil then wearing socks to bed.

Giveaway

This week I have tried Max Factors new Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara and was really impressed. It has strong staying power and dries quickly. I have long lashes and a constant problem is mascara causing streaks on my glasses or smudges on my lids because I am impatient.

The brush hasn’t clumped up and coated my lashes evenly which made application quick and easy. It is a 2 step system to thicken and darken your lashes.

All I’m wearing in this pic is the mascara! How good is it? I love the shape of the tube/bottle too. It now sits on top of the mirror in front of my door so I can always touch up or just flick mascara on before I rush out the door.

The only thing I didn’t like is it’s hard to get off when cleaning my face, but that’s the price you pay for a mascara that lasts and lasts.

I have 5 to giveaway!

So if you would like to win a mascara, tell me what your biggest money problem and why? Totally not beauty related, but may as well ask a question where I can help you in future posts right? Leave a comment below and you must be following either with my newsletter or on Google+.
