According to the Grays Harbor Wild Olympics Campaign, more than 80 local businesses have announced their support for Wild Olympics.
Former Grays Harbor County Commissioner Al Carter with the campaign says that nine CEOs and nearly 100 new business endorsers from the Olympic Peninsula and South Puget Sound Region are the latest who endorse seeing the passage of the legislation to permanently protect the Olympic National Forest.
In a letter to Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Derek Kilmer, the group urges the reintroduction of The Wild Olympics Wilderness & Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
Senator Patty Murray said in February that she plans to reintroduce the legislation that died in the 2012 session of Congress.
First introduced in June of last year following 3 years of public meetings and discussion, the plan would expand the wilderness area in the Olympic National Forest by about 200 square miles, create a buffer around Olympic National Park, and designate 19 rivers as Wild and Scenic.
The Grays Harbor County Commissioners, Aberdeen City Council, and Cosmopolis City Council have all voted in opposition to the legislation.
The Hoquiam City Council voted last June to say that they opposed the legislation as it was, but they were willing to consider a revised plan.
