AUSTIN (KXAN) — Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott are being honored for helping children in danger.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children honored the Abbotts as well as DPS Special Agent Christopher Kendall as Texas Heroes for Children.
KXAN anchor Sally Hernandez emceed the event.
John Walsh, who founded the organization more than three decades ago, says the Austin office plays a critical part in getting children out of harm’s way.
“Certainly Texas has its problem with exploitation of children being brought through Texas to put into sex trafficking so this branch is crucial,” said Walsh.
Walsh says Abbott has served as an advocate for children.
