For the seventh year in a row, Lake Travis is lake superior. The Cavaliers scored the final 24 points to take down district rival Westlake 24-7 Friday night.
Lake Travis took the lead late in the first half when quarterback Dom DeLira rolled to his right and threw back across the field and end to the end zone to Colton Bailey for a 13 yard score. The Cavalier defense held Westlake scoreless in the second half. Lake Travis remains tied at the top of district 13-6A with Bowie. The Bulldogs beat Hays 41-7 Thursday night. Lake Travis and Bowie play Oct. 31 in a de facto district championship game. With Westlake third in the district, Austin High took a big step towards clinching the fourth and final playoff spot in 14-6A by beating Del Valle 34-17.
Round Rock is leaving little doubt that they are the top team in district 13-6A. The Dragons won their seventh game in a row Friday night, beating two-time reigning district champion Hendrickson 49-7. Like Lake Travis, Round Rock gave up an early touchdown on a quarterback run before taking control. Hendrickson’s Carrington Kearney scored on a first quarter run, but the Dragons scored the final 49 points.
In 5A, Elgin rallied from a 14-0 first quarter hole to beat Hutto 21-17. The loss is the second in as many weeks for the Hippos, who began the season 6-0. Elgin is undefeated in district 17-5A and tied with Temple for first place. Georgetown handed Vista Ridge its first loss of the season, holding on to win 50-42. And McCallum remains in the driver’s seat in 26-5A following a 65-0 defeat of Reagan.
