We recently checked out the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment and from the natural springs to the glass bottom kayaks, it’s one of the most beautiful and fun spots in our area. Headquartered at Spring Lake Hall (formerly the Aquarena Hotel), the Meadows Center overlooks the San Marcos Springs and Spring Lake, the headwaters of the crystal clear San Marcos River, which winds its way through the university campus. The Center is dedicated to studying, preserving and interpreting the remarkable aquatic system that surrounds it as it extends that attention and concern to freshwater systems across the state, the nation and the world. Since 1945, glass-bottom boats have given people of all ages an in-depth look at the natural beauty of Spring Lake, where thousands of springs bubble up from the Edwards Aquifer. The Meadows Center’s Glass-bottom Kayak Tour Program is an intimate way to learn about the interconnections of water to all living things and an fun opportunity to visit and explore Spring lake. You can go to the Meadows Center’s website for more information.
