*_POSITION SUMMARY:_** *
The WAN Engineers shall design and troubleshoot Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN). The WAN Engineers shall use engineering disciplines as well as current information technology to support the SWACC mission. The WAN Engineers shall be required to troubleshoot Cisco routers, Cisco VPNs, router management, switches and firewalls. Candidate must have detailed knowledge of network protocols and devices. The WAN Engineers shall evaluate network performance, tune network infrastructure including routers, switches, data links, and security features, in accordance with (IAW) relevant agency and industry guidelines. This position will report directly to the SWACC Manager or supervisor as appointed.
*_MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:_*
1. Responsible for maintaining and operating routers, switches, and firewalls all over South West Asia
2. Expert knowledge with layer 2 through layer 4 technologies with a focus on Cisco networking equipment to include routers, switches, and firewalls as well as network tools.
3. Detailed knowledge and experience with Open Short Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Multi-Protocol BGP (MP-BGP), Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF), and Quality of Service (QoS).
4. Evaluates network performance and makes adjustments to the network infrastructure hardware and software to include, but not limited to, routers, switches, firewalls, and network management devices, in order to operate and optimize network performance.
5. Functions as an expert and source of networking experience in LAN/WAN technology for site level personnel.
6. Creates and verifies the existence of detailed requirements definitions, fully developed project plans with milestones and timelines, the identification of necessary resources and the successful completion of the project on time and within budget.
7. Executes best communication engineering practices in network builds, integration, testing and packaging of infrastructure documentation and application solutions IAW DoD, Army, CENTCOM, DISA, SWACC, 335thSig Cmd, and 160thSig Bde regulations, bulletins, manuals, pamphlets, circulars, standards and other applicable directives to include, DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
8. Performs other duties as required.

*_MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_*
*Education/Certifications*: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
*Education Requirements: *Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (IT)
*Experience:*The WAN Security Engineer should have: (1) a minimum of three years of practical experience in data network installation, engineering or administration in an enterprise network environment; (2) an understanding of basic security principles and their application to an Active Directory environment; (3) expert level knowledge with Cisco IOS and ASA software; (4) as a plus, UNIX, webpage/automation, systems development, and programming.
*Certifications:*This position requires candidates to adhere to DoD 8570.01-M. All candidates are required to maintain at least one (1) baseline certification and one (1) computing environment (CE) certification. The authorized certifications for this job title are listed as follows:

*_WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:_*
1. Candidate must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 lbs.
2. The work environment will be 95% indoor and 5% outdoor. The outdoor work environment may exceed temperatures 100º F. Candidate must be able to physically withstand extreme heat.
