### JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

**About the Position:** This position will be filled on a Permanent basis. Initial overseas tour is for one (1) year with possible extensions up to five (5).

### DUTIES:

As a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist you will be responsible for the following:

* Evaluate a wide variety of potentially hazardous operations
* Provide occupational health guidance to supervisors
* Accident prevention control
* Recommend corrective action in discrepancies
* Prepares directives and regulations governing activities and the need for additional regulations
* Participate in safety meetings with top management
* Conduct safety inspections on Commands worksite

### QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

This is a Career Program (CP) #12 position, applicants must possess the CP-12 Safety and Occupational Health Professional Certificate (awarded upon completion of the ACTEDS Skill Level I requirements for GS-0018s) and Explosives Safety Certificate (Level I) or obtain these certificates within 12 months of hire.

Experience required:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: planning, scheduling, and coordinating the safety and health inspection program; use of hazardous materials; and prepare safety policies, procedures and guidelines.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

* Initial appointment is 12months with the possibility of extensions.

* Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.

Medical care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location.
