Saturday July 14

10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Theory Class in Hauz Khas Village

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.: Lunch Break

2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Classroom Session Continues

Sunday July 15

6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.: Shoot at Qutab Minar Complex

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.: Proceed to Hauz Khas Village

9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Critique Session

COST

Rs. 4,000 per person for both days

Cost includes tea / coffee on both days but does not include meals and transport to and from Qutab Minar complex

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

Theory

The workshop covers the fundamentals of photography and will include: Equipment and its Handling; Going beyond technicalities to understand Light, Composition and Colours, Shutter, Aperture, Depth of Field, ISO / Film Speed, Light, Exposure and Metering, Capturing Perspectives

Session 1: History of Photography and Introduction to Modern Camera

* Cameras: Understanding Point and Shoot, Compact, Film SLR and Digital SLR Cameras

* Controlling Exposure: Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO and their interrelation

* Lenses and their usage

* Advanced features of Digital Camera

Session 2: Understanding Lighting with Practical Exercises

* Various types of Light and how it creates textures, color and details in the picture

* Colour Temperature and White Balance

* Light Metering all through practical exercises

* How to mix various light sources

Session 3

* Composition Rules: How light, shapes and lines add to compositions

* Making of an Image: Story behind the picture! Genres of Photography

* Photo Editing /Post production

Field Trip

Participants will go to the Qutab Minar complex and shoot under the guidance of expert faculty. All participants are required to submit a theme based portfolio for final assessment. The group will then proceed back to Hauz Khas Village for a critique session.

About the Mentor: Dheeraj Paul

Dheeraj Paul hails from a family of well known professional photographers, and has been trained under his father, Mr. S. Paul, one of the best known and awarded photographers internationally.

He has spent over two decades working as an editorial and advertising photographer. His specializations are People & Travel, Industrial, Fine-Art Photography, Still-Life, Food, and Architecture. He believes in stealing moments in daily-life situations. Besides outdoor photography he is an expert in indoor lighting situations and studio lighting set-ups.

Dheeraj also teaches Advance Photography to Post Graduate students at the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre and Faculty of Fine Art at the Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi. His friendly approach make the most serious topics fun to learn, ensuring that the workshop will morph all the learning in a very simple way!

As a dedicated photography educator, Dheeraj brings insight and generates enthusiasm amongst his students in workshops held across India. His excellent rapport and communication with participants inspires and motivates, while his straight-forward teaching style appeals to groups comprising many skill levels.

He has been invited twice as International Jury by the HUMANITY PHOTO AWARDS 2009 and 2011, China, which was jointly organized by the China Folklore Photographic Association (CFPA) and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

He has illustrated many coffee table books, and his work has been published in leading magazines in India and other countries.
