Middle school students in Juneau will not be allowed to travel to athletic contests outside the city.
The Juneau School Board on Tuesday voted 4-3 to ban travel for the district’s middle schools, starting the next school year.
The Juneau Empire reports individual schools previously decided whether to travel outside the city.
Board President Sally Saddler, who supported the measure, says it’s important the district focuses on budget issues and its core mission.
Resident Wade Bryson was against the measure. He told the board once the ban goes into effect, it won’t be long before other southeast Alaska schools districts stop coming to Juneau.
