A string of crimes has hit the Cal State San Bernardino campus, including an attempted abduction Sunday and attempted sexual assault near the campus library days prior, according to officials.

In Sunday’s attack, a student said she was on her cell phone when a man grabbed her from behind, placed his hand over her mouth and said he planned to take her to his vehicle, school officials stated in an email addressed to the campus community.

The woman elbowed the man and he ran away, the email stated. The incident occurred outside the John M. Pfau Library around 3 p.m.

The attacker was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, with a thin build, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall; with medium-length, dark-colored hair. He was wearing dark-colored shorts and a gray T-shirt.

On Wednesday, another woman reported an attempted sexual assault in the Pfau Library, according to a separate email from campus officials.

The woman reported she fought off the attacker, who then fled.

He was described as a Hispanic man between 19 and 21 years of age, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 135 to 145 pounds, with curly-black hair. He was wearing a black shirt, tan-cargo shorts, black socks and was carrying a red backpack.

Other recent crimes included a strong-arm robbery on Thursday when a man allegedly stole a student’s iPhone, according to another campus email.

And on Monday, Feb. 23, a man was arrested after allegedly stealing a student’s vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding campus crimes was asked to contact the university’s police at 909-537-5165.
