CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Deputies believe a Tennessee teenager may have consumed a mixture of liquid morphine and Gatorade that led to his death over the weekend.

The possible drug-related death is now under investigation by the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office and detectives are trying to determine how the 17-year-old male got the drug to begin with.

According to investigators, the teen was staying at a friend’s house on Oakwood Road in Joelton. It is believed he drank the mixture Thursday evening and did not wake up Friday morning.

That’s when a friend called 911, and the 17-year-old died the next night at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

The sheriff’s department is waiting on autopsy results and a toxicology report, which could take several weeks.

The teen was a junior at Sycamore High School in Pleasant View. The school district released a statement Tuesday, saying:

The Cheatham County School District would like to extend our condolences to family and friends, and our hearts and thoughts are with them in this time of mourning, said David Hooper, Interim Director of Communications.
