OREM, Utah (AP) — Orem police say the mother of two teenage girls caught in an ongoing custody dispute had been hiding her daughters for more than year.

The Daily Herald in Provo reports (http://bit.ly/1R5qvjX) that police in Pleasant Grove, acting on a tip, found 16-year-old Sydney and 15-year-old Danielle Wolferts early Sunday.

Officers found the sisters with their mother in an apartment.

The teens were released to their father, Brian Wolferts.

Sonja “Michelle” Wolferts has been booked into Utah County Jail but police did not list the charges.

Orem police say the girls were visiting Michelle Wolferts in July 2014 when she reported they had run away.

Brian Wolferts, who lives in Topeka, Kansas, had custody of the teens.

Police say they spent countless hours looking for leads in the sisters’ disappearance.
