MORGAN HILL (KRON) — The search for missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar was suspended Monday almost three since her disappearance.
Steve LaMar, the girl’s father, said that volunteer search teams have “exhausted viable search areas” and that regular scheduled Saturday searches will end March 14.
The 15-year-old disappeared in Morgan Hill on March 16, 2012 after leaving home to catch the school bus not far from her mother’s home in unincorporated Morgan Hill. A search of the area turned up the teenager’s purse and cell phone. Despite extensive efforts from teams of volunteer searchers and local authorities her body has never been found.
The Santa Clara County Criminal Grand Jury has indicted Antolin Garcia-Torres for the kidnapping and murder of the cheerleader. He was formally indicted in February of 2014 in the girl’s murder.
Although LaMar’s remains have never been found but prosecutors say forensic evidence inside the defendant’s car convince them he had murdered her. Unsealed documents from the indictment indicate LaMar’s hair was found on a rope in the trunk of Garcia-Torres’ car. Fibers from the defendant’s car were also found on Sierra’s clothing recovered near the bus stop, the indictment reveals.
Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty in the case.
