Kevin Mazur/WireImageActor Kevin James and Billy Joel are both from Long Island, New York, and they're pals: Kevin even appeared on stage with Billy twice last year. Since turnabout is fair play, James now says he's going to get Billy to guest star on his new TV show.
The former King of Queens star's new sitcom, Kevin Can Wait, debuts on CBS September 19 at 8:30 p.m. It's set in Long Island, and casts James as a retired police officer whose wife and three kids keep interrupting his fun with his three cop buddies. Kevin Can Wait is the first episodic sitcom ever to be filmed in Long Island, according to Newsday, which is probably why James thinks he can persuade Billy to show up.
“I’m begging him to be on the show. We will get him in somehow," James tells Newsday. "It’s definitely surreal for me [to be friendly with him] because he is this legend who I grew up listening to. Every song he has is a distinct memory from my childhood."
In 2015, James appeared on stage with Billy the night he broke the record for the most shows ever performed at New York's Madison Square Garden by a solo artist. He also appeared on stage with Billy a few months later, when Billy played the final show before Long Island's most famous concert venue, the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
