Summer really makes me to become a dreamer all over again. Not saying that it’s a bad thing, but I tend to procrastinate more when the sun is shining outside and we have a weekend full of plans ahead of us. During particular lazy days I try to remind myself of some ways to keep my productivity up. Let me share some wisdom with you all!
5 ways to improve your productivity:
WRITE THINGS DOWN
It wasn’t until last year when I discovered the importance of making notes and planning. Now I start my day with setting a schedule in my notebook and it really helps me to stay on track. There’s just something about creating lists that makes me feel calm & in charge of my time and projects. Sometimes, if I’m particularly busy, I even make a list the night before, so I know what I can expect.
JUST START
I will admit publicly that I’m a huge procrastinator. I love scrolling through social media for way too long and watching tv shows when I have an important deadline due tomorrow. From what I can remember I’ve always been that way. I also noticed myself having difficulty to actually start on the process. Everything seems to be more important when I sit down and prepare for work. Oh, there are dirty dishes in the sink! Oh there’s a sale on ASOS! I have to call my mother… List can continue. If I notice myself falling into never ending hall of procrastination I try to actually sit down and START. Usually, it’s only the matter of state of mind. Once I get going, I get going & the hardest part is done.
ASK FOR HELP
If you feel stuck don’t just wait staring at one spot until you figure it out. Talk to someone! It can be your colleague at work, your other half or your friends. Sometimes all you need is just putting your trouble into words. You can also look for help on support forums online or simply google your questions! I know that’s an obvious one, but seriously- if you have a question internet probably already has an answer somewhere out there. All you have to do is look!
TAKE BREAKS
Have you ever heard about (10+2)*5 method? It’s been created by Merlin Mann, author of 43Folders.com. The (10+2)*5 simply means 10 minutes work + 2 minutes break multiplied by 5. It is crucial to stick with the time limits and not skipping work and break schedules. The point of this is for you to create a jam-packed routine of work and break schedules. The result? You will eventually skip your break schedules. You can also do some exercise, go out for long lunch or do whatever you do in order to get back with even more energy. Don’t just sit and expect to do it all before the end of the day. You need some time off to stay 100% productive.
DEDICATE TIME FOR CREATIVITY
There’re days when I wake up and the only thing I want to do is go back to bed again. These moments I realise that my day ahead doesn’t look that exciting and I have to change something. It’s important to find some time for dreaming. Get that pen out, draw something, take pictures, read a book or write a short story. Allowing yourself to be creative would make a huge impact on not only better managing your tasks, but also being a happier human being.
Hope this helps folks! Let’s promise each other to follow these tips & always try to beat the person we were the day before, huh?
